Great Basin Camp-Out

Over Labor Day we packed up our little Corolla with camping gear- plus Claire & Robert, it was a little tight :) and we took off to Great Basin National Park. We camped for 3 days with the Wixom clan.

We were a little nervous about Great Basin - it is in no where Nevada - but it turned out to be gorgeous. We had some rain but it was not bad. We just played cards under the canopy. We always have a blast camping with the family, enjoying delicious dutch oven, smores, games, all the camping fun. We were even able to celebrate Little Ernie's 11th birthday.

We went and explored the Lehman caves.

 Emerson did awesome in the cave, he didn't seem to mind it was dark at all. He liked to talk really loud, I think he liked the Echo.

The gave strict instructions not to touch the walls so we didn't disturb the water flow on the walls or ruin any new formations. Well I looked over and Emerson kept touching the walls whenever we turned corners, it was pretty funny.

Camping with a baby: It was actually a lot of fun. Emerson loooved it! He loved being outside all day, crawled in the dirt, played with sticks and rocks, was a giant mess, and was just in little boy heaven. We usually had him hangout in the pack and play around the camp ground, but when he got sick of being cooped up he would crawl around my parents big tent. Luckily there was not a lot of bugs there but we had some deet free bug spray for him and we loaded him up on sun screen since we were outside all day. He would usually nap during hikes or when we drove to the caves, or visitors center.

 

 Nights were a little harder, the first night we were worried about him being cold so we had him sleep with us ( we zip 2 sleeping bags together). But he woke up a ton! He moves around a lot when he is sleeping so the restrictive sleeping bag he was not a fan of. It ended up not being that cold so we just put him in super warm pajamas, put a beanie on him and loaded the pack in play with blankets and put it in our tiny tent with us. It was cozy but he slept a lot better in the pack and play. We would also have him fall asleep in the Bjorn so we could hang around the camp fire a little longer Two big thumbs up for a successful camping trip.
