Summer Camping

Mark & I love camping. When it was just the two of us we would decide to go camping on short notice and be packed and ready to roll in an hour. A kid throws in a whole lot more planning and items to pack. But I am so glad we were able to go once this summer. With Mark going to school Friday and Saturdays it really limited our camping ability but he did have 3 weeks off in August and we were able to take Emerson camping.

We drove up towards Island Park. We found a perfect camping spot right next to horseshoe lake and right as we parked and opened the doors a giant storm came out of know where and drenched the area. :(

So we drove about 20 minutes up the rode where it didn't rain and found another spot that was dry. It wasn't by the lake but it did have a fun creek Emerson loved.

That night was a little harder, we zipped our sleeping bags together and had him sleep in between us. It took him an hour to settle down enough to fall asleep. He was just so excited. He would roll over and whisper "Hi mom, sleeping in a tent!" and then roll over and touch Mark's face and whisper " hi dad, sleeping in a tent!" He did this over and over again. But seeing his excitement and how much he loved it made it all worth it.

The next morning we made a delicious dutch oven breakfast, packed up, and headed back to the lake. On the way we stopped and picked loads of huckleberries.
