and then there were three

Emerson has arrived....

He made his debut October 19, weighing 8 pounds 3 ounces and 20.5 inches long, with loads of hair. He is an amazing baby, great eater and sleeper, and hardly cries. His delivery went well, epidurals are amazing :)

Last Baby Bump Picture

 Minutes Old
First picture before he was whisks away to the NICU - We weren't able to hold him again until the next day
He had a little of a rough start, right after he was born he had a hard time breathing. He had a lot of fluid in his lungs, they sucked as much as they could out but he was still having short shallow breaths. They took him to the NICU to get checked out and his oxygen levels kept dropping.  They had to admit him and get him on oxygen and an I.V.
But by the second day he was doing great, they took him off oxygen - and we were able to hold him and start to feed him.
First time holding him since he was born

He ended up having to stay a full 7 days to get a round of antibiotics to make sure that there wasn't an infection in his lungs. I was discharged after 2 days so Mark and  I got to make the trip to the hospital every three hours to feed him - we were really ready for him to be home!

Having a child in the NICU is pretty stressful and emotional- we were just glad he was a healthy boy, I cant imagine if he was really sick. He looked like a giant compared to all his tiny neighbors.

He is very well loved and got visits from his aunts and grandparents.Grandma finally got to hold him for the first time when he was about 5 days old

  1. So glad he is doing well! NICU babies are tough! I remember the same thing, driving to the hospital every 3 hours to feed and snuggle mine up...what a relief to finally have them home!
